Set Up Your Phone and Laptop
Everything in EUnifyer works in a web browser, on any device, with nothing to install. This page is for the other way of working: mail in your phone’s own Mail app, meetings in your own Calendar app, files in a folder on your laptop.
You can do as much or as little of it as you like. Start with Step 1 — the app password — because everything else needs it.
If you are setting this up for a group, hand them this page. Nothing on it requires an administrator.
Step 1 — Create an app password
Your phone’s Mail app cannot use the sign-in screen you see in the browser, so each device needs its own app password.
- Sign in to EUnifyer in a browser
- Click your avatar → Settings
- Scroll to App Passwords → Generate App Password
- Name it after the device — “iPhone”, “Work laptop” — so you know which is which later
- Copy it now. It is shown once
Make one per device. If you lose a phone, delete that one password and the phone loses access; everything else keeps working.
Your normal login password will not work in these apps. That is deliberate.
Step 2 — Pick your device
iPhone or iPad
-
Settings → Mail → Accounts → Add Account → Other
-
Add Mail Account, enter your name, your email address, and your app password
-
Choose IMAP and fill in:
Incoming Outgoing Server imap.eunifyer.comsmtp.eunifyer.comPort 993 587 Security SSL/TLS STARTTLS Username your email address your email address Password your app password your app password -
Save
Calendar
- Settings → Calendar → Accounts → Add Account → Other
- Add CalDAV Account
- Server
cal.eunifyer.com, your email address, your app password - Next — your calendars appear in the Calendar app
Contacts
Same again under Settings → Contacts → Add Account → Other →
Add CardDAV Account, with server contacts.eunifyer.com.
Files
Use the browser: open eunifyer.app in Safari and add it to your home screen. It opens like an app and gives you every file. iOS has no built-in way to mount a file server, so this is the shortest path.
Android
Gmail can hold other accounts. Open Gmail → your avatar → Add another account → Other, then enter your email address and app password. When it asks for server details use the same table as iPhone above.
Calendar and contacts
Android has no built-in CalDAV support, so install DAVx5 from the Play Store once, and it feeds both.
- Open DAVx5 → + → Login with URL and user name
- Base URL
https://cal.eunifyer.com, your email address, your app password - Tick the calendars and address books you want
Your existing Calendar and Contacts apps pick them up from there.
Files
Open eunifyer.app in Chrome and choose Add to Home screen.
Mac or Windows laptop
Files — install EUnifyer Desktop
This is the one worth doing. It puts your Drive in a folder on your computer that works like any other folder.
Go to eunifyer.com/download and follow Download & Install. Sign in with your normal EUnifyer account — the desktop app uses the browser sign-in, so no app password here.
Mail, calendar and contacts
If you are happy reading mail in the browser, you are already done. To use Outlook, Apple Mail or Thunderbird instead, follow Use with Desktop Client for mail and Connect Calendar for calendars and contacts. Both use the app password from Step 1.
Shared mailboxes and groups
Two things your administrator may have set up look similar and behave differently:
- A shared mailbox — like
info@— is a second inbox. It appears in the EUnifyer web app alongside your own mail, for everyone who has been given access. - A group — like
bestuur@— forwards to each member’s own inbox. There is nothing extra to open or set up; mail sent to the group simply arrives where you already read your mail.
If you expected a shared mailbox and cannot see it, ask whoever administers your organization to check your access. See Shared Mailboxes & Aliases.
If something does not work
| What you see | What it usually is |
|---|---|
| ”Authentication failed” | The normal login password was used instead of an app password. Generate one and try again |
| ”Cannot verify account name or password” on iPhone | Usually the server field. imap.eunifyer.com for mail, cal.eunifyer.com for calendar |
| Mail arrives but cannot be sent | The outgoing server settings: smtp.eunifyer.com, port 587, STARTTLS |
| Mail works on the phone but the calendar never shows | Only a mail account was added, and a mail account does not bring the calendar. Add the Calendar account too, or install the profile from Settings → App Passwords, which adds both. With several EUnifyer addresses, each one needs its own calendar account |
| Calendar connects but is empty | The calendars were not ticked during setup. Reopen the account and enable them |
| A device was lost | Settings → App Passwords → delete that device’s password. It loses access immediately |
Still stuck? Your administrator can see whether your mailbox and domain are set up correctly, which is the other half of most problems.
